Maidstone & Malling Netball League 22nd Sept 2011 Wealden vs Lashings Final Score: 37 v 41

Yep, its that time again, the start of winter season on a Thursday night. However, much to the delight of the players, instead of a dark clouds, heavy rain showers and bitter temperatures, the evening was perfect netball weather and provided an excellent start to the season, for the duly drafted Wealden team.

A mixture of both youth and experience, new and old (of course no referral to the age there but merely to the long-standing years of being a Wealden player – phew is that ok Sally and Tracey), it was always going to be an exciting combination. Knew the game would provide polished skill levels, as Wealden were playing fellow team mates in Lashings. Certainly some tight match ups of players who knew each others games inside and out , & boy was it a fabulous game.

The defence of Hattie and Lucy was solid and so many times absolutely outstanding. Although a few goals down in the first quarter with the shooting combination of Twin 1 (Lauren) and Tracey learning each others moves, they still managed to put the Lashings defence through their paces.

The variety and speed of feeds from Sally at WA certainly kept both Lauren, Tracey and Emma on their toes! Fantastic match play. Second quarter saw a change in the shooting circle and Twin 2 (Chloe) coming on at GA and Tracey moving to WA. This certainly did the trick and Wealden steadily closed the gap on a well established Lashings Team.

Third quarter saw Wealden winning the quarter, and taking the lead for the first time in the match. Last quarter Lashing made a clever move and put Rachael at GK against Lauren. Match continued goal for goal until the last few minutes, when a couple of missed shots enabled Lashings just to move ahead slightly with final score of 37-41! A fantastic match with as mentioned, fab defence from the girls and breath-taking shots from both Chloe and Lauren!
