28/01/2017 Weekend Match Reports

31/1/2017

Wealden 3 (social ) vs Tonbridge 2  44 – 22
Socials played Tonbridge 2. Great friendly match but Took a quarter for us to warm up. Amy Howell and eryn salako (u14s) played half and last quarter very well - slotted in a treat having just played for the 2nds.
We Just allowed Tonbridge to get a point with final score 44-22. Second in table behind Xs and hoping to gain promotion to Div 2

Wealden green vs Langton  24 – 26
Slow start for wealden going down by 6 goals in the first quarter. Strong second quarter from all the girls and we finish the quarter level. Sophie and Erin making it extremely difficult for Langton in the shooting circle.  All level at the end of third quarter after we pulled away by 4 during the quarter. Mia creating great space as centre. Everyone looking tried during the 4th quarter some poor passing and less movement we loss by 2
Pom Charlotte watts  always a safe pair of hands.
Umpired by Junior James Baker

Wealden black vs jets 1 13 – 22
Strong start from attack and we finish level at half time. Third quarter we struggle to feed the shooters and jets take a 7 goal lead. Lack of changing direction and not chasing lose ball we can't reduce the goal difference. Far to many held ball calls
Pom Lillie harley. Great support all game.

WEALDEN RED V CD PHOENIX VIOLET  13 - 29
This was always going to be a fierecly contested game and we were warmed up ready for some sharp action. The opening quarter saw Wealden come out on fire and quickly pulled the game ahead finishing 7 - 4 up. But Phoenix weren't having any of that tightened up their defence strategy, pinned us down with close man on man marking and we ended at half time on an 8 - 8  draw. We needed to practise our training tactics and bring the ball out from the defense but we lost our focus in the third quarter and with a number of held ball calls and were punished as Phoenix notched up another 4 goals. The final quarter saw us beaten losing 5 goals to 2 and the end result giving CD Phoenix the win 17 -11. Much better than first time round though when we lost 29 - 13 this time we pick up the extra point for getting more than half.

WEALDEN AMBER V HALSTEAD LIONS  5 - 2
Despite being down to 7 players and missing Captain Kayla Brown the Amber team were ready to show Halstead just what they're made of. Lead by Bea Cheverton as Captain with Phoebe Norman stepping in as Vice-Captain the team got off to a fantastic start with Leonie Fernandez sinking 3 goals in the first quarter to take the lead 3 - 0. Grace Kohler showed how much she'd listened and worked at training keeping tight on to her player and turning the ball over time and again. As usual we struggled to convert our turn over opportunities into goals and finished the second quarter without one successful shot. But Emily Ball came on as GS in the third quarter and showed us how it was done moving the score up to 4 and whilst Halstead managed to get one in Millie Mercer kept the GA under tight control forcing a held ball call in our favour. In the final quarter Gracie MacAuley wasn't letting anything past her either and turned the ball over repeatedly which was rewarded with one more successful shot from Leonie to secure the win 5 - 2. Special mention for Bea and Phoebe for their superb shoulder passing, well done girls.

Sophie Nash
Paula Costa
Chelsea Rix
Phoebe Neighbour

Following on from our win just before Christmas Wealden 1 had high hopes going into this fixture against Queens. We started well, forcing two errors by Queens early off. We knew they weren't going to give up that easily and the remainder of the quarter went almost goal for goal. The second quarter saw an unchanged side for Wealden, there were a few passing errors in attack which left us three goals down at half time. We went out hard in the third quarter with strong defensive pressure through the court, which saw us two up at the end of the third quarter. One change at 3/4 time saw Pippa take the court, unfortunately a dangerous contact meant she had to come off with an ankle injury, putting Phoebe back on court at WD. Phoebe did a great job of bringing the ball through the court, however the Queens defensive pressure left us one down as the final whistle went. Throughout the game we never gave up, and gave our all, the first time round we lost by 16, which shows how much we have improved throughout the season. Opposition player of the match went to Eve Neighbour, and coaches player of the match went to Phoebe Neighbour.
Thanks to Jackie, Sam P, Kath, and everyone else who came to support, score and cheer us on! Bring on the next game!!!

Wealden Blue 15 vs 16 Jets 3

24/1/2017

Unfortunately the Blue team lost by 1 today after leading the first quarter 6 - 2 and still 10 - 8 up at half time. Ball placement into the circle against an effective GK was probably our biggest weakness and we were punished in the 3rd quarter with an extremely accurate GA who took Jets into a 15 - 13 lead. Although we won again in the final quarter we just couldn't pull back that extra goal and finished 16 - 15. All shooters played well with Isabella getting POM and a special mention for Ester one of the year 6 players who was outstanding as WA certainly a player to look out for.

Wealden Gold 27 v 9 Wealden White

23/1/2017

Always a difficult game  when you are playing against your club mates. Great netball from both teams, Wealden Gold worked hard moving the ball through the court and playing the ball into the circle to the shooters and  great shooting accuracy from Eryn and Daisy. Wealden White made  good interceptions but found it harder to get the ball into the circle with the defence working tirelessly  through the court by the Golds. Both teams worked hard and it was lovely to see the girls all showing good fitness and playing with smiles on their faces.

KSCL Wealden 50 v 54 Crystal Palace

22/1/2017

Despite taking our time to settle as a team, and a slow start against crystal palace, we ended on a high, winning the last quarter and keeping up our moral (and our heads) throughout.
We also won the 2ND quarter, showing we had got into our stride against this aggressive squad. Some exceptional shooting from Monique ensured we kept our centre passes, and with Hannah feeding to her with confidence and from as far away as the third line, the shooters were working well together.
In defence, we struggled after Claire came off with an injury, but Sally did her best to use her height against a young, but strong GS. Chantelle flew across the court, helping to support the attack, then racing back to double up on the GS. Sophie read the game well and blocked the GA out, giving the defence more of a chance to turn the ball over.
Both Margot and Sophie worked well down the court, not only getting free from tough opposition but also getting some amazing interceptions. Trudi, as ever, kept the structure of the game, making herself free for both defence and attack. All of mid-court played together well, and always ensured they supported each other with an easy passing option.
We managed to rile Crystal Palace up, with two of their players receiving cautions for their actions, just proving how hard we were making them work.
Despite getting within 2 goals, we sadly lost by 4 in the end, but the girls did everything they could and the team are starting to have confidence in each other! It was a pleasure to watch and coach!

Wealden Green 9 v 25 CFX

21/1/2017

A tough game for the green team against a well drilled CFX team. The CFX defence were tall and strong so it was difficult to get the ball into the circle. Great work in defence with interceptions by Charlotte and Kaci. All the girls worked hard to bring the ball through the court. A great spirit shown by the girls, they never gave up although we still need to work hard on getting in front of our players and driving on to the ball.

POM Charlotte Watts

Wealden Black vs Halsted

16/1/2017

All a little rusty after the holidays but after the first 5 minutes we started working together. Moving in front of our players and using channels well down the court. Leading into the last quarter.

Final score 10 - 17

P.o.m Genre.  Excellent defence never gives up.

Wealden Gold vs Langton Ash

16/1/2017

First game back from the holidays and all a little rusty. Defence made lots of turnovers throughout the game but we couldn't convert the turnover at the attacking end. Had a flurry of goals in the last 5 minutes. Great effort from all.

Final score. 13 - 25

P.o.m Amy.  Strong in defence great support up court.
