Reports from 17/6/17

Wealden Pink v CFX Merlins
The heat was already on by the time we started the first game at 9.40 but it wasn't long before Captain Gracie kept her cool and got the team onto the score sheet. Alice and Millie were solid in the defence showing just how to take an interception. A great 3-0 score line at the end of the first quarter had our heads up as we made the rotation changes. Isla took the court as GS and I'm not sure who was more nervous her or her mother but Isla showed us just what she'd learnt in the few weeks of training and demonstrated some great catching and shoulder passes. Alanna as Vice-captain was thrilled to score 2 goals in the second quarter taking the score up to 5-1 at half time. Millie surprised herself in the third quarter scoring 2 goals and supported well by Imogen in the circle. As we entered the final quarter ahead with  a 7-2 lead we were able to relax a little and stay calm in the heat finishing the game with another 3 goals from Alice and Abi. Well done girls you could see the learning from the tournaments and training finally coming together. A lovely win to finish the season on final score 10- 2.

Match Reports from 6th May 2017

Saturday 6th May 2017
Wealden Blue versus Eynsford 3  Result 24 11 won

This was an exciting game from the start where the team played strong attacking Netball pouncing on any opportunities to gain possession. Shooters Rose and Isabella were on top form
with rare misses and excellent movement into the circle. Elise was busy at WA, quick off the line at the start and used a formidable shoulder pass to feed the shooters. Ellie had a great game at both ends of the court showing her all round skills and accurate footwork. In defence Chenade and Anna worked tirelessly and collected in valuable rebounds. Libby at WD played an energetic game never losing her opponent and marked tightly. Well done to Louisa and Grace who steadied the ship as centres. A really great display of Netball today. Well Done to all the team.
Isabella was nominated player of the match.

Saturday 6th May 2017
Wealden Red versus CFX Eagles. Result 15 13 won.

On previous occasions this has always been a tough fixture and with a squad of 7 on the day, everyone knew they were in for a good game. We needed to keep calm and play controlled Netball but more importantly it was about keeping the ball. From the start goals went with centres and both teams looked to capitalise on any mistakes made by their opponents. Isabella and Charlotte found the composure under the post and at first quarter it was 6 goals each. There was only room to rotate the shooters so Lucy took GA and Charlotte went to GS. It was great to see the girls play with real flair, where the shooter's confidence grew as the goals kept coming with neither team managing to break away. Under pressure the girls kept focused, everyone worked incredibly hard. In defence Chloe Jane and Anna were a formidable combination. Isabella kept a pace with their quick WA. Half time it was 11 10 to us and the determination was as stronger as ever. Pin point feeds from Grace at WA and an unwavering solid performance from captain Louisa resulted in a well deserved win. Well Done to the players on a game enjoyed by all.

Junior League Versatility Tournament - April 2017

22/4/2017

Saturday 22nd April
saw 5 Wealden Junior teams out at the Sevenoaks Junior League Versatility Tournament. With 2 mixed age groups from the U14 squad the Black and Green teams competed in the Division 2 and 3 section whilst 2 Year 7 teams from the U12 Red and Blue squads competed in Division 4 and for the first time this season the Year 6 girls formed their own Pink team in Division 5. The focus as always with versatility was on having fun, especially when the GK gets the C bib or anyone gets the GA or GS bib when they're clearly not a shooter. Whilst essentially netball skills are still required in reality the shooting accuracy at times may have been nearer 20% rather than the 80% requirement and the ball may have passed over the top of the ring several times before finally scoring a goal, but who cared a good deal of laughter and team bonding was had by all. Great club spirit and actually 2 runners up medals for the Black and Red teams as an added bonus. And as for the weather it too proved how versatile it could be starting with a slightly cold wind at 9 moving into drizzle by 11 and the sun finally shining by the 12.30 presentation, how typically British.

Wealden Black V Halsted 19 – 8
Great game from all the girls this week. Strong passing all over the court and using the channels to great affect. Sharp shooting from Lila and Abigail and spot on feeds to the shooting circle from Elosie and Lucy.
Defence never gave Halsted attack any space tight on all the time.
POM Lucy quick feet and always finding space. Well done

Wealden White v CFX Kestral
CFX cancelled game

Wealden Gold V Langton Ash  20 - 10
After a good warm up the girls hit the court ready to play and took the early lead. Great movement down the court and good support from defence when they got a turn over. Strong rebounds in the attacking and defending circles.
POM Daisy Chapman Sharp Shooting and great movement. Well done

Wealden Black v Langton willow ( rearranged game January ) 20 – 24
Down the first quarter by 8 goals it was always going to be tough to pull back a win. All the girls dug deep and worked hard to turn the centres over and hold on to their own. Lacking the drive in front of the defence made feeding the ball into the circle challenging.
POM Lucy kept on feeding the circle. Well done

Wealden White v Langton oak 12 – 49
We struggled to field a team for this game. All the girls played hard but just didn’t  gel together as a team against a team that had played together for the whole season.

Wealden 1 , 2 and 3 games
Today Wealden 2 beat Crystal Palace 2 by 47-23 which should secure them their place in division 2. Great team pressure with turn overs through the court, every player on the court was under 18, great credit to the junior club!! POM was Amy.

Also Wealden 3 beat top of the table X's to secure promotion to division 2 next season. It was a very close game, and nobody gave up, sadly none of us are under 18

Whilst Wealden 1 didn't win, they are sitting in fourth with one game to go, so guaranteed to retain their place in division 1. POM is Charlie Baker.

Well done ladies, happy coach.

Wealden Red vs Langton Elms
17 - 17
Wearing our pink bibs to support Net10, Wealden were eager to get a strong start, and captain Louisa led by example showing great vision and determination. Resulting in Wealden being only one goal behind at the end of first quarter. A fast second quarter with every one staying focused. Chloe-Jane demonstrated that height difference is not a problem for her by putting the GA under constant pressure resulting in held balls and mistakes in passes. Langton however did not miss when they did eventually get the ball in the shooting circle, so led Wealden again at half time by 11-8. The third quarter saw consistent defending from Sophia, Lucy G and Anna making the Langton attackers having to work hard. In this quarter, there was an outstanding performance by Grace as WA. Not only was her change of direction to receive the ball from Louisa impressive but her vision to feed the ball into Lucy C and Isabella was amazing. We were still 16-12 down by the end of the quarter. Final quarter Wealden just got stronger and more determined. Lucy C and Charlotte started pulling the gap closer. And again the defence stepped up ensuring Langton only got to score one goal. Unfortunately Charlotte had an injury in the last few minutes of the game but Isabella stepped back on court and scored the last goal levelling the game at 17 all. Amazing come back. Well done everyone.
Thank you for Maz for scoring.

Wealden Amber 3 Vs 6 CFX Kites
Pink bibs on for Net10, and knowing they were against an experienced CFX squad, Wealden worked hard, with Kayla and Bea ensuring CFX could only score once. Second quarter, Gracie K scored an amazing goal from distance to get Wealden on the score sheet. Phoebe controlled the centre court well and fed the ball in for Gracie to score again. Alice was strong as GD and showed all her training in her match play and with partner Leonie ensured that CFX only got one more goal. Half time and score level 2-2.
Third quarter was a busy one for Emily and Gracie in defence but they worked hard and CFX only scored 2 and Wealden got 1. Final quarter, Ellie put in some great interceptions and together with Bea they got the ball back down court for Leonie to feed into Kayla and Alice. Kayla had many shots on target, but luck was not on our side with the ball rolling off the back or side, although frustrated they were not going in, Kayla kept working hard supporting the team all over court.
Although Wealden lost today they demonstrated a high skill level and team effort which was recognised by the other umpire and CFX coach.
Thank you Sarah for scoring

Wealden Amber 16 v CFX Merlins 0
Warmed up and ready for their game, the U10's took the first quarter by storm with Alanna Cross starting the game off well as C. Phoebe Norman and Leonie Fernandez combining well to score 4 goals. Defenders were strong with CFX not getting many chances to get the ball into their shooting circle.
Second quarter, Gracie Kohler GD worked hard to get the rebounds and passed the ball out well to get the attack going again. Wealden demonstrated consistency with change of direction, accurate passing and interceptions galore.
The third quarter saw Grace MacAuley put up some amazing shots alongside Anya Webber. They were ready for every rebound. Bea Cheverton and Phoebe Norman intercepted the ball again and again.
Everyone was committed for the final quarter and Captain Kayla Brown led by example and showed great movement in the circle scoring several goals to increase the final score. CFX were unable to score today, but they did have some good movement and passing on court, meaning Wealden had to stay focused throughout the game. Well done to all the girls for putting all your training into match play.
Pom - Kayla Brown

Wealden Black vs Otford Vipers lost   3 - 11
Slow start to the first quarter with poor decision making. Defence turned many passes over coming in to the circle but struggle to clear the ball back down the court. A few coaching tips at half time and we are now able to clear the ball and look strong moving down the court. Abigail making some great drives into space and  in to the circle. Lucy and kate working hard around the attacking circle to feed the shooters.
We need to remember what we have practiced at training  and bring every match.
POM Kate. Some great interceptions all game.

04/02/17 Weekend Match Reports

8/2/2017

Wealden white vs Langton  7 – 38
The team struggled to move the ball down the court and in to the circle. Langton wanted the ball all  game and challenged every move or pass the girls did on court.
The best quarter was the third scoring 6 goals. We started to drive for the ball and come in front of the players.
Work to be done at training this week.

Wealden Gold vs CDP Gems  22 – 40
The first half of this game was goal for goal with some excellent netball from all the girls. The GA for CDP was a key player but we had Amy and Rachel  who did an amazing job all game putting pressure on any pass going into the circle and getting many turnovers or tips stopping the pass. Centre court worked tirelessly defending and attacking never giving up. We had a strong game in the shooting circle for 3 quarters of the game but lost focus in the last quarter only scoring 5 goals to cdps 11.
This was a highly contested game and I don’t feel the score is a reflection of how well the girls played.

Wealden Black vs CFX  13 - 18
Slow start to the first quarter to many bad passes and foot work calls we went down 3 goals. A couple of changes in mid court and in the defending circle we hoped to pull back in to the game. Some fast feet in the centre court and we are loosing the defence of cfx moving the ball down the court better. We struggled to get it in to the shooters so don’t make up any ground. Coach changes Abi and Lilly around in the circle and gives some pointers to the defence. Some excellent defence turn overs by Genre and Beccy and on target shooting we pull back to 1 goal. CFX come out hard in the last quarter and stop several passes making it into the shooting circle.
POM Genre Herd read the game well and made many interceptions

WEALDEN BLUE V CD PHOENIX LILAC
What a fantastic start to the game as the team were lead magnificently by Lucy Goodwin, Captain out on court for their warm up and
pre-match preparation. Unfortunately the first quarter didn't reflect the before match preparation leaving us with a 6 - 4 deficit to catch up on. With a heads up reminder to the on court defence saw Charlotte Neal take control turning the ball over and driving the ball out of defence to turn it around to a 9 - 8 lead. The third and fourth quarters were shared neck a neck with results of 6 - 6 and 5 - 5 ensuring that the 1 goal lead was sustained. Well done Wealden Blue a well challenged and sustained match. Special mention for Annie and Katie Moore for working on that feed into the circle, much improved and thought about, Lucy Clements for almost 100% accuracy on shooting and the two year 6 girls, Josephine Woodward and Chenade Herd for really showing how technical training is delivered in match play. Final score win 20 - 19 to us. Thank you for parent help Sandra Moore

WEALDEN RED V CD PHOENIX YELLOW
I am a firm believer that if you win the toss you start on a positive and if ever there was a need to do this today the Red team needed just that. Coupled with the fantastic warm up led by Captain Louisa Thomas with the support of her Vice, Jess Marden the team were up and raring to go before I arrived on court, well done. After the deficit of last week's experience the Reds were determined to show their metal and take the court hard. But it just wasn't going to be, the first quarter saw a 3 goal deficit to CD Phoenix losing 6 - 3. But resilience in all areas of the court, as well as the amazing interceptions of GK Chloe-Jane Fraser at least a head and shoulder below the height of the GS, showed our determination and the team started to turn it around winning the quarter 5 - 4 so only 2 goals down. A change to the shooting circle with Jess Wates as GA and Lucy Clements GS playing up from the Blue team combined with the ferocious interceptions by Jess Marden in the mid court saw a massive turn around and Wealden finished the quarter with a 7 - 1 result meaning we entered the final quarter with a 4 goal lead. Unfortunately as the game progressed we couldn't sustain the momentum but settled with a satisfactory 17 all result much commended by both sides, well done to all a lovely game of netball restoring our belief that the Red team really do have what it takes. Thank you Jackie Gerety and Sally Baker for your side line support, much appreciated.
Thank you for the parent help Maz Thomas and Emma MacAuley

Wealden 3 (social ) vs Tonbridge 2  44 – 22
Socials played Tonbridge 2. Great friendly match but Took a quarter for us to warm up. Amy Howell and eryn salako (u14s) played half and last quarter very well - slotted in a treat having just played for the 2nds.
We Just allowed Tonbridge to get a point with final score 44-22. Second in table behind Xs and hoping to gain promotion to Div 2

Wealden green vs Langton  24 – 26
Slow start for wealden going down by 6 goals in the first quarter. Strong second quarter from all the girls and we finish the quarter level. Sophie and Erin making it extremely difficult for Langton in the shooting circle.  All level at the end of third quarter after we pulled away by 4 during the quarter. Mia creating great space as centre. Everyone looking tried during the 4th quarter some poor passing and less movement we loss by 2
Pom Charlotte watts  always a safe pair of hands.
Umpired by Junior James Baker

Wealden black vs jets 1 13 – 22
Strong start from attack and we finish level at half time. Third quarter we struggle to feed the shooters and jets take a 7 goal lead. Lack of changing direction and not chasing lose ball we can't reduce the goal difference. Far to many held ball calls
Pom Lillie harley. Great support all game.
Umpired by junior James Baker

WEALDEN RED V CD PHOENIX VIOLET  13 - 29
This was always going to be a fierecly contested game and we were warmed up ready for some sharp action. The opening quarter saw Wealden come out on fire and quickly pulled the game ahead finishing 7 - 4 up. But Phoenix weren't having any of that tightened up their defence strategy, pinned us down with close man on man marking and we ended at half time on an 8 - 8  draw. We needed to practise our training tactics and bring the ball out from the defense but we lost our focus in the third quarter and with a number of held ball calls and were punished as Phoenix notched up another 4 goals. The final quarter saw us beaten losing 5 goals to 2 and the end result giving CD Phoenix the win 17 -11. Much better than first time round though when we lost 29 - 13 this time we pick up the extra point for getting more than half.

WEALDEN AMBER V HALSTEAD LIONS  5 - 2
Despite being down to 7 players and missing Captain Kayla Brown the Amber team were ready to show Halstead just what they're made of. Lead by Bea Cheverton as Captain with Phoebe Norman stepping in as Vice-Captain the team got off to a fantastic start with Leonie Fernandez sinking 3 goals in the first quarter to take the lead 3 - 0. Grace Kohler showed how much she'd listened and worked at training keeping tight on to her player and turning the ball over time and again. As usual we struggled to convert our turn over opportunities into goals and finished the second quarter without one successful shot. But Emily Ball came on as GS in the third quarter and showed us how it was done moving the score up to 4 and whilst Halstead managed to get one in Millie Mercer kept the GA under tight control forcing a held ball call in our favour. In the final quarter Gracie MacAuley wasn't letting anything past her either and turned the ball over repeatedly which was rewarded with one more successful shot from Leonie to secure the win 5 - 2. Special mention for Bea and Phoebe for their superb shoulder passing, well done girls.
POM - Gracie MacAuley     Thank you Shannon for umpiring
