Saturday 22nd April
saw 5 Wealden Junior teams out at the Sevenoaks Junior League Versatility Tournament. With 2 mixed age groups from the U14 squad the Black and Green teams competed in the Division 2 and 3 section whilst 2 Year 7 teams from the U12 Red and Blue squads competed in Division 4 and for the first time this season the Year 6 girls formed their own Pink team in Division 5. The focus as always with versatility was on having fun, especially when the GK gets the C bib or anyone gets the GA or GS bib when they're clearly not a shooter. Whilst essentially netball skills are still required in reality the shooting accuracy at times may have been nearer 20% rather than the 80% requirement and the ball may have passed over the top of the ring several times before finally scoring a goal, but who cared a good deal of laughter and team bonding was had by all. Great club spirit and actually 2 runners up medals for the Black and Red teams as an added bonus. And as for the weather it too proved how versatile it could be starting with a slightly cold wind at 9 moving into drizzle by 11 and the sun finally shining by the 12.30 presentation, how typically British.
