Wealden Pink v CFX Merlins
The heat was already on by the time we started the first game at 9.40 but it wasn't long before Captain Gracie kept her cool and got the team onto the score sheet. Alice and Millie were solid in the defence showing just how to take an interception. A great 3-0 score line at the end of the first quarter had our heads up as we made the rotation changes. Isla took the court as GS and I'm not sure who was more nervous her or her mother but Isla showed us just what she'd learnt in the few weeks of training and demonstrated some great catching and shoulder passes. Alanna as Vice-captain was thrilled to score 2 goals in the second quarter taking the score up to 5-1 at half time. Millie surprised herself in the third quarter scoring 2 goals and supported well by Imogen in the circle. As we entered the final quarter ahead with a 7-2 lead we were able to relax a little and stay calm in the heat finishing the game with another 3 goals from Alice and Abi. Well done girls you could see the learning from the tournaments and training finally coming together. A lovely win to finish the season on final score 10- 2.

Wealden Amber v CFX Owls
Trying to stay cool with not too much warm up in the rising heat the Amber team took the court. Plenty of steady passing and strong interceptions from Ellie and Grace meant that Leonie and Bea had plenty of shooting opportunities but the ball just wouldn't go through the net and finished the quarter in the lead but the score line 1-0. The change of positions put Imogen and Phoebe in the shooting circle and they managed to put in another 3 goals with what must have been the goal of the season from Phoebe shooting from distance at the edge of the D and score at half time 4-0. But then CFX came back at us and their shooting combination left us standing and with only 1 more goal claimed we entered the final quarter with a 5-3 lead. Sheer determination from Grace and Lexie in defence and fantastic interceptions across the centre court by Bea kept CFX at bay only allowing 1 more goal and once again poor Leonie and this time Ellie just couldn't get that ball through the net. Fortunately we hung on to the lead ond finished the game with a 5-4 win. Great finish to the season.

Wealden Red v Langton Elm
Well this was always going to be a tough one when year 7 girls pitch against year 9, just the sheer physical difference in height and build puts our young players at an immediate disadvantage. I don't coach a tactical game we focus on skill and ability to place the ball rather than specific moves so that the girls learn to make their own decisions on court. We needed to keep moving in this game, get in front and focus on ball placement but it was tough out there and especially in the heat. We started really well with Jess and Lucy sinking 7 goals and Lucy, Anna and Sophia as Captain maintaining a tight defence finishing the first quarter with a 7-4 lead. But it couldn't be sustained and even with more movement provided by Isabella in the shooting circle we just lost the momentum and lost the quarter 1 goal to 5 putting us behind 8-9 at half time. We still fought on though and in the third quarter managed to score 3 more goals with Annie and Katie working hard to feed against huge defence players and Anna and Sophia turning the ball over constantly in the middle. Sophia couldn't take the heat and had to come off in the final quarter but we still kept going and still managed another 3 goals. Final score 14-19 to Langton but a great effort in a lot of heat and against much bigger opposition I was immensely proud of the girls attitude and effort.

Wealden Blue v CFX Ospreys
This was a midday game and 4th of the day with the heat up at 28C. CFX only had 6 players and for once we were matched in the middle with year 6 girls. Our advantage with 3 year 7s Lucy and Isabella shooting and Charlotte in defence did put CFX at a disadvantage. That said there were times when they ran rings round us with only 6 players, a 3-3 draw in the third quarter and down to 5 players with an injury in the final quarter. Chenade showed just how well she reads those interceptions now she just needs to convert those taps into catches. Bonnie and Emma really demonstrated how much skills had improved and the strength of Libby's shoulder pass was impressive I was surprised Isabella and Lucy managed to hold on to it. Still making a few foot work and passing errors but generally a good opportunity to have a game against similar ability and age. Final score 19-8 to Wealden.

Wealden Gold v Langton Oak
With 8 players available and the heat still very oppressive the Wealden girls needed to rotate carefully to give each other a break or rest. We started really well winning through to the final quarter but change of position and heat found us trailing by 2 goals. Sheer determination, some great interceptions and accuracy from Daisy and Mollie pulled the team back to a well deserved draw at 23 all, very satisfying for both sides and a fantastic end to a very hot day. A special mention for the positive attitude from the girls when they had to play out of position and for working hard together as a team.
