Wealden County squad took on the tough opposition of Goldwyn Netball Club in Division 2 of the Kent County League. Although they fought all the way only being 7 goals behind at halftime, Goldwyn had a strong 3rdquarter leading 41-33. Wealden did their best to come back getting within 6 goals again but unfortunately, Goldwyn got the win this time. Final score 44-50.
A wet and slippery match today for Wealden 5 and knowing they has many players missing there were going to be some unusual combinations. Great start at the end of Q1 Wealden took the lead 19-3 but Q2 saw a 9-goal draw between the teams. Fortunately, still with the 19-goal lead they could take some chances on positioning and had a comfortable Q3 14-5. The final winning score 56-24.
Wealden 1 was lucky to be inside for their match against Leyton Netball Club in Division 3 of the London and South East Regional League. It was a close one! Despite being 8 up at ½ time Leyton did not make it easy for us, but we hung on to take the win 36-34! Congrats to our opposition POM Tiffany Haughton and coaches POM Paula Costa! 5 points in the bag 3 out of 4 wins for Wealden in what was a considerably colder day than the last time we played at NWK!
Wealden 1 started the day with a 42-33 win against Vibrant, winning the first quarter by 7. Maintaining and building on that lead throughout the game, despite a comeback from Vibrant, we pushed through and finished strong. Wealden 2 then took on Tonbridge 1, despite being very close for 3 quarters they kept their foot on the gas with some excellent defensive turnovers in the final taking the win 49-40. Wealden 3 had a tough encounter with Chislehurst 1, with some inconsistent quarters, losing 49-32. Wealden 4 rounded off working hard for the final win of the day. First quarter 3 goals down and slipped to 5 by quarter 3 so a huge effort was needed. They delivered and landed 7 goals more than their opponent in the final quarter, winning 47-45. Excellent work from our POM Chelsea Shaw with great work rate, shooting and defending down the court! Thanks to our opposition Falcons Netball Club, the wonderful green army, the umpires and our sponsor. What a way to end the weekend! Another warm day out for Wealden 5 at NWK and a fabulous Result. A strong 34-9 lead at half time and the opposition only scoring 2 goals in the 3rd quarter finishing with a win of 65-18. Building up their goal tally nicely. Our younger teams also went out this morning at Sevenoaks Junior League with Emerald and Pear having tough games against top teams however Wealden Olive managed to get a win 31-18.
Wealden’s Regional team had their 3rd game against Tiffin Netball Club. They didn’t have the best first half, too many errors saw the score 21-35 to Tiffin. But they dug deep, addressed the issues and turned it around winning the second half by 2. Final score 47-59. Congrats to coaches POM Ellie Poland and opposition POM Paula Costa for their excellent work rate and solid shooting. Thanks to our travelling supporters, the opposition and the umpires, and as always our wonderful sponsor Simon Jones Superfreight LTD. Fantastic first game for our U18 county Team, taking the win 37-22 against Kent County Netball Club. This is the first time we have entered an U18 team in the Kent County U18 County League. Excellent performance throughout, with a lot of turnovers and great shooting. Thanks to all supporters, parents, coaches and umpires! Congratulations to Millie Constantine for being awarded both coaches and opposition POM.
Sadly we also have to announce that the most amazing Emma Macauley is stepping down as junior secretary. Emma does so much work behind the scenes from Teamo, emails, WhatsApp groups, squad and match info, trials, the list goes on! The junior section of the club would have been lost without you Emma and we are really going to miss you! On behalf of the Wealden Committee, we would like to thank you for everything you have done. |
